Jonathan Lytton, Ph.D.
Professor & Head, Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, University of Calgary
Dr. Lytton obtained his PhD degree in Biochemistry with Dr. Guido Guidotti at Harvard University in 1985 studying insulin regulation of the Na+,K+-ATPase, and then went on to postdoctoral studies in molecular biology of Ca2+ pumps with Dr. David MacLennan at the University of Toronto. In 1989 he took a junior faculty position at Harvard Medical School and Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston. Dr. Lytton moved to Calgary in 1995 as a member of the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology. He is a member of both the Libin Cardiovascular Institute of Alberta and the Hotchkiss Brain Institute, a Scientist of the Alberta Heritage Foundation for Medical Research, and holds a Canada Research Chair in molecular cardiovascular biology. Dr. Lytton's research concerns the molecular physiology of Ca2+ transport proteins, with a particular focus on structure, function & regulation of different Na+/Ca2+-exchanger proteins and their roles in cardiovascular and neuronal biology.
