John Irving is President of Ocean Capital, a company with diverse businesses and investments including real estate, construction, radio broadcasting, and energy services; an Irving company located in Saint John, New Brunswick. In addition to his corporate activities, John has been actively involved in various community roles primarily focused on  education, healthcare and heritage. He is currently serving on The Canadian Ditchley Foundation Board of Directors, the New Brunswick Business Council, several Harvard University advisory councils, and Honorary Director of the Royal Regiment of Canada Artillery Senate.

His past leadership positions include Honorary Colonel of the 3rd Field Artillery Regiment (The Loyal Company), board roles with the Institute of Corporate Directors, Atlantic Provinces Economic Council, and Chair of the New Brunswick Museum and the Saint John Regional Hospital Foundation. 

John has been recognized for his contributions to educational, cultural and heritage activities with honours including the Harvard Hiram Hunn Award, the Meritorious Service Medal (Military), the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal, the King Charles III Coronation Medal, the YMCA Red Triangle Award, and an honorary Doctor of Civil Law from the University of King’s College. 

John holds a BA in Economics and an MBA, both from Harvard University.
