This fall, we are excited to welcome Drs. André Briend, 2025 John Dirks Canada Gairdner Global Health Award laureate and Michael J. Welsh, 2025 Canada Gairdner International Award laureate, to the Montreal Hub as part of the Gairdner Connects Programming. We invite undergraduate students, researchers, faculty, and the broader academic community to attend this special event.

Dr. Briend is globally recognized for the invention of a ready-to-use therapeutic food, which has revolutionized management of severe acute malnutrition in children, allowing treatment to shift from inpatient care to community-based management and saving countless lives.

Dr. Welsh is widely recognized for pioneering research into the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying the genetic disease cystic fibrosis, leading to the development of transformative drug therapies based on these mechanisms, thereby improving and saving countless lives.

Schedule

The program will feature a morning mentorship sessions with the University of Montreal, followed by a university lecture and Q&A session on Monday, October 20, providing an opportunity to engage directly with Drs. Briend and Welsh.
