The future of medicine is here. Recently thrust into the global spotlight after forty years in the making, the tiny bubbles of fat known as lipid nanoparticles are what protects and delivers the mRNA COVID-19 vaccines. Without them, there would be no mRNA vaccine, let alone one so effective that shocked the scientific community.
And it doesn't end there. This breakthrough provided a glimpse of the promise and impact that gene therapy medicine, enabled by the technology of lipid nanoparticles, has for human health. Touted as the next generation of medicine, gene therapy has the potential to revolutionize treatment and dramatically improve quality of life by targeting the underlying cause of a genetic disease.
So what does the future hold? 2022 Gairdner Awards laureate Dr. Pieter Cullis will explore this question in his keynote at this Gairdner Global Perspectives Panel followed by a panel discussion on the future of therapeutics, where he will be joined by Drs. James Taylor, Sherie Duncan and Thomas Madden, moderated by Tiffany Chiu.
6:30 PM PT - Doors open
7:00 PM - 7:30 PM PT - Opening remarks & Keynote
Dr. Rossant will open the event followed by a presentation by Dr. Cullis on "Gene Therapies, the Next Generation of Pharmaceuticals". He will discuss the research and impact of lipid nanoparticles and look to what the future holds for gene therapies thanks to the power of lipid nanoparticles as a drug delivery system.
7:30 PM - 8:00 PM PT - Panel discussion: A live Q&A featuring questions from the moderator and the audience.
8:00 PM - 9:00 PM PT - Networking reception
