Dr. Lana Vanderlee is a Canada Research Chair in Healthy Food Policy and an Associate Professor at the School of Nutrition, Université Laval. She holds a PhD in Public Health from University of Waterloo, where she focused on evaluating the impact of food labelling and marketing policies. Her current research addresses one of the most pressing public health challenges: designing and evaluating population-level food and nutrition policies that promote sustainable diets and prevent noncommunicable diseases. She conducts applied research with global networks of investigators across the Americas, Europe, Africa and the Western Pacific to examine how upstream government and food industry policies and actions shape food environments, and the downstream impact of these policies on health. In her policy-oriented research program, Dr. Vanderlee works closely with governments and NGOs to ask research questions that can inform Canadian and international policy decisions. She is director of INFORMAS Canada, a network of researchers monitoring and evaluating Canadian food environments broadly, as part of international efforts to support actions that will create environments that support healthy, equitable and sustainable dietary patterns.
