2027 Gairdner Early Career Investigator Awards
The Gairdner Foundation is proud to recognize a landmark $5.3 million gift from the Azrieli Foundation to endow and name the Azrieli Gairdner Early Career Investigator Awards.
This generous investment will ensure sustained support for outstanding early-career scientists across Canada, providing opportunities to showcase their research, connect with world-renowned scientific leaders, and build relationships that will help advance their careers. Through this partnership, the Azrieli Foundation and the Gairdner Foundation are investing in the next generation of scientific leaders and strengthening Canada's research community.
About the Awards
The Azrieli Gairdner Early Career Investigator Awards invites applications from outstanding early-career researchers at the assistant professor or equivalent level from across Canada.
Each year, up to six investigators are selected to receive an Azrieli Gairdner Early Career Investigator Award, with one recipient representing each of the scientific areas recognized by that year's Canada Gairdner Awards.
Award recipients have the opportunity to present their research alongside Gairdner laureates, engage with leading international scientists, and become part of the global Gairdner scientific community.
The 2027 award recipients will participate in Gairdner Science Week in October 2027, including opportunities to connect with current and past laureates, leading researchers, and outstanding peers. Recipients will also attend the Gairdner Awards Gala in Toronto.
In addition, recipients will be invited to participate in a scientific networking meeting in May 2028, bringing together past Gairdner laureates, postgraduate students, and fellow early-career investigators. Travel and accommodations will be provided by the Gairdner Foundation.
Recipients are selected through a competitive review process, with initial evaluations conducted by Gairdner committee members and final selections made by Gairdner laureates.
