Now Hiring: Communications Advisor
Location: Toronto, ON (Hybrid)
Type: Full-Time, 18-Month Contract
The Gairdner Foundation—home to Canada’s most prestigious biomedical research awards—is seeking a Communications Advisor to lead strategic communications that raise our profile, celebrate world-leading science, and engage broad audiences across Canada and internationally.
What You’ll Do:
● Plan and implement communications projects to grow awareness of the Canada Gairdner Awards and related events
● Lead the communications strategy for our annual awards announcement—including media outreach, press releases, content development, and liaising with laureates and their institutions
● Maintain and update the Gairdner website with news, events, and program information
● Create compelling video and graphic content to highlight laureates and their research
● Manage Gairdner’s social media presence across X, LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook and Bluesky
● Monitor and report on social media engagement and performance
● Support outreach and nomination campaigns through digital channels and direct communications
● Support the Foundation's $25 million fundraising campaign through the production of campaign collateral materials
● Contribute to sponsorship and government reporting, including preparing communications summaries, analytics, donor reports, stewardship reports and gift announcements
What We’re Looking For:
● 5+ years of experience in strategic communications, media relations, or digital marketing
● Strong writing and storytelling skills, especially translating science for public audiences
● A track record of managing social media and creating content calendars
● Graphic design and video content creation skills
● Familiarity with media outreach and communications planning
● Interest in science, global health, and research is a strong asset
